29 Newbury to Close after 30years

April 15, 2015

After more than 30 years in business, the Back Bay restaurant 29 Newbury will close its doors in mid-April.

“I am absolutely heartbroken to shut my doors after 30 years,” owner Debbie Lewis said. “My biggest concern is for my employees. They have been like family to me, and I want them to land safely and successfully after this unexpected closure. I never expected this to happen either and it is not my choice. I plan to provide references for my dedicated staff so they can find new opportunities.”

29 Newbury first opened in 1983, and Lewis has owned the Newbury Street-mainstay since 1986. The restaurant is staffed by 30 full-time employees, which swells to about 40 in outdoor patio season.

The building is owned by D.L. Saunders Real Estate Corp.
