Taking a cue from the success of live music programming at urban park venues in New York City and other similar locations across the country, Café Esplanade is now offering a jazz brunch on Sundays.

“It’s an upscale touch and a nice addition to the park, especially on sleepy Sunday mornings,” said Chris Sinclair, president and founder of The Anthem Group of Boston, which has operated the year-round eatery located near the Hatch Shall since June.

Each Sunday, the café opens for breakfast at 8 a.m., and the musicians typically perform two 75-minute sets beginning at 9 a.m. and ending before the conclusion of brunch at 1 p.m. Acts include jazz duos and trios, with local act the Wildflowers emerging as an early fan favorite.

“We also get a lot of requests to play from Berklee students, and we’re not going to turn them down,” Sinclair said.

The jazz brunch is slated to continue at least through Thanksgiving, given the overwhelmingly positive response it has received to date.

“It’s been welcomed by virtually everyone who has come across it,” Sinclair said.

Tani Marinovich, director of development for The Esplanade Association, lauded the new programming as a wholly worthwhile addition to the park.

“We’re thrilled about Café Esplanade’s new jazz brunch and feel that it will enhance the park experience,” Marinovich said.
