Yesterday was the season opener for the Hill House summer team. Counselors new and old put last week’s staff training lessons to work when the summer’s first campers arrived at Hill House. This summer will be Hill House’s first as an American Camp Association Accredited program, the only one within Boston city limits.

Last week, counselors and counselors in training (CITs) were immersed in the Hill House summer culture. They began each day with a morning meeting-clapping and singing ensured that the energy was flowing. Guest speakers discussed age characteristics and homesickness, and every summer staff member became CPR & AED Certified.

Each afternoon, the focus shifted to program execution and instruction. Athletic Coordinator and Summer Day Camp Director MacEgan Starrett, Kiddie

Kamp Director Maggie Magner, Athletic Specialist Joe Parlow, Day Camp Assistant Director Emily McCabe, King of Fun Matt Pennucci and Art Specialist Dani Urencio taught staff music, athletic and art instruction.

In addition to members of the leadership team, Hill House’s summer staff is spotted with even more familiar faces-among them Gina Pizzano and Nick Schauwecker.

Many weeks of both Kiddie Kamp and Day Camp have filled. Those that remain open have only a few seats left. For more information, visit www.hillhouseboston.org or call 617-227-5838.
