INCIDENTS

Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon – Knife

05/22/12 – At about 3:52 a.m., officers responded to a radio call at 329 Newbury St. for a fight involving a knife.

Upon arrival, police spoke to the victim, who stated the suspect attacked him with a knife after assaulting his girlfriend. The victim said he knocked the knife out of the suspect’s hand and held it for police.

After police broadcast a description of the suspect, police found an individual fitting that description on the Commonwealth Avenue Mall.

After the suspect told the officer he wanted to tell her what happened, she read him his Miranda rights. The suspect then stated he stabbed the victim and his girlfriend in self-defense.

Police brought the suspect back to the Newbury Street location, where the victim positively identified the suspect. The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to Area D-4 headquarters for booking. Police also turned over the knife to the Sexual Assault Unit as evidence.

A witness told police that the suspect asked him to watch his watch his bag before the suspect began swinging the knife at the victim and his girlfriend.

During the booking procedure police again read the suspect his rights before the suspect stated that he stabbed the victim and his girlfriend in self-defense after they called him a racial epithet and chased him down Newbury Street.
