Animal Abuse

07/06/11 – At about 6:41 p.m., an Area D-4 officer responded to a radio call for an animal-control assist at 9 Hereford St. for two dogs observed sitting unattended in a 2001 Honda Civic.

On arrival, the officer spoke to the Animal Control officer, who stated that the dogs had been sitting in the vehicle for half an hour and the owner had yet to arrive to check on their wellbeing. The animals were left in the vehicle, which was extremely hot and had the window slightly cracked.

The officer also spoke to the individual who originally contacted Animal Control. He stated that the animals had been sitting in the car for a half an hour prior to the arrival of the Animal Control officer and no one had checked on the animals during that time.

The Animal Control officer seized a white/brown Coonhound and a white-and black Boston terrier and left the owner a note on the vehicle’s window, advising where the animals could be found. He said he planned to cite the owner for cruelty to animals.

Threats to Do Bodily Harm

07/08/11 – At about 2:40 p.m., an Area D-4 officer responded to Jennifer’s Nails at 224 Newbury St. to speak to the owner about threats she received after the theft of her cell phone.

On arrival, the officer met with the victim and the reporting party. The victim said she had received a phone call from an unidentified male, who said he bought her cell phone on Craig’s List for $350. He said he couldn’t activate the phone until after the victim called Verizon and cancelled her account.

The victim said the man called back numerous times. At first, he said he would give the victim $100 to cancel the phone. He called back and demanded that she cancel it. The man said he was coming to the nail salon, implying that he would harm the victim if she didn’t cancel the phone.

The victim gave police the number where the calls originated from, adding that more recent calls came from a blocked number.
